About Kitchy Mama

My name is Leah Smith and I love to cook, write, and learn new things.  I'm not a nutritionist or a professional chef, but I am a mom who wants to make healthy eating a priority in my home.


My goal is to eat well on 1600 calories a day, maintaining my ideal weight without giving up my favorite foods and without torturing my family with food they hate.  I love variety, real rood with real ingredients, and a touch of the exotic with plenty of good ole comfort food mixed in.

Were not exactly poor, but our resources are limited with only one main income, so frugality is highly valued.  Sometimes my conviction to eat real food of the highest quality runs in direct competition to the lack of cash in my pocketbook, so I am always trying to balance these two values.  My meal plans aren't totally low budget, but they are certainly budget conscious--so if you like to eat well, but have to watch your pennies at the grocery store you have found a friend in me!

I started this blog as an outlet for my creative juices after deciding to become a (mostly) stay-at-home-mom after our second child was born.  I am having a great time learning my way around the blogosphere and growing an audience for Kitchy Mama Meals.
